Hi! It's September and I'm really not sure how that happened. I'm also not sure how I haven't posted an update since bloody January. Can I blame ~~my chronic slacker tendencies~~ my job?

This dreamwidth is a mirror of my account on LJ. I've let the mirroring lapse hardcore in recent years, but this summer's mass immigration to these parts has encouraged me to try and be better about it. Er, except for my Master List post. There's no way I'm going to remember to update that with Dreamwidth links. I'll always link to AO3, at least?

I am actually in a really good place right now, emotionally speaking. My job is very busy, but I feel more confident in my position and the courses I'm teaching than I did last year. I'm also helping out with some clubs that I'm actually interested in, which makes it more fun than work. I'm hoping to do more writing as a result of this emotional upswing, but it will depend on how organized I am.

Hello everyone! I hope that you all had a lovely time over Christmas. Mine was pretty restful, which was great until I was forced to admit that all of the work that I brought home over the Christmas break still had to be done, and I've done mostly nothing since work for the past three days. Safe to say, the weekend is not going to be more of the same. :P

The semester is nearly over! \o/ Which means that I'm moving into one of the two busiest months of my entire year, but my second semester should be a lot lighter on marking, which will hopefully help me balance my time better. *fingers crossed* One of these days, I will learn how to manage my marking, I am determined!

I'm trying very hard to have the rest of my

spn_j2_xmas fic posted before I go back to work on Monday. To the lovely people who commented on the original post, I shall respond to you once the rest is up so that you know that there's more to read. :P I'm also slowly trucking away on something for

spn_reversebang, which is probably going to be my main fandom focus for the next little while. I have about a million WIPs on my computer right now, so one of my goals for 2017 is to finish as many of them as I can because it's getting ridiculous.

Hello LJ-land!

I have officially survived my first year as a full time teacher! \o/ And pretty much all I have done since finishing is sleep because June is balls. I'm starting to feel more human now, though, which is good because I'm leaving tonight to spend two weeks in the Netherlands. Vacation!

I had the utter joy of meeting

dugindeep in person last weekend first the first time, which was awesome. I think we've known each other for about four years, which made it feel more like seeing a friend you haven't seen in a while instead of meeting someone new. And she's lovely, of course. I'm pretty sure everyone knew that. Thank you for visiting my poor, lonely Canadian self, my dear! It'll have to be a longer visit next time!

So, I know I've got a backlog of a couple of stories that I wrote for various challenges that never got reposted. I'll be posting two for sure today, and I'll figure out what else I might have missed. I've also got about a million ideas that wanted to be written when I was too busy to think about writing, so we'll see if they're still interesting now that I have time. My bigbang will be posting at the beginning of August, so you've all got that to look forward to, you lucky things. *grins*

Hello, denizens of LJ! How's it hanging?

I was at Dragoncon last week! It was pretty awesome!

TL;DR: Would definitely go again if it didn't cost so freaking much. I really need to work harder on becoming independently wealthy.

I have now officially survived my first (most of a) year as a high school teacher! *applause* The last three weeks have sucked SO hard, oh my god. It's a good thing that I love the teaching, because the marking for high school English courses has nothing whatsoever to recommend it. MARKING IS THE DEVIL. FOR SERIOUS.

But now I am on summer vacation! Which is also known as unemployment since I was covering a maternity leave and have absolutely nothing lined up for next year, but I absolutely do not need to care about that for at least a month. I shall be applying to stuff as it comes and I shall worry about that shit after I've had a break and caught up on all the stuff which I haven't been doing.

For instance! I have masses of absolutely lovely comments to respond to (I haven't been ignoring you, I swear), my most recent J2 story to crosspost, two anon Sherlock stories to post, all the bigbang stories that I have saved to read and the challenge of turning my bigbang disaster draft into a real story to get started on. I may also do a prompts request sometime in the next little while, though, because I have done almost no writing this year and I miss it. Y'all will help me out, I hope. :)

Now I am off to a birthday party and tomorrow I am going to World Pride with a friend and THEN on Monday I am getting on to LJ stuffs. Huzzah!

Term one ended this past Friday! January apparently sucks balls for high school teachers: I have done nothing but mark and write report cards for the past two weeks. This is going to be an object lesson in how not to stress myself out come June.

So yes! Term two starts tomorrow, which I'm going to get to do right from the beginning, which I'm looking forward to. And my RBB is getting posted on Tuesday ~~provided I finish it...~~. I have done, like, no writing recently, guys. I'm going into a little bit of withdrawal.

Also, we have had ridiculous amounts of snow this month. Never on days that would give me a snow day, of course, but I'd rather the snow to the cold. The number of times my car's been too cold to start is well past double digits by this point. How many months to summer?

Right, so, here's the skinny. My new job is wonderful but it means that I have precisely no time ever to get stuff done. So if I've been failing at talking to you/answering your comments/pretending that I'm a real person, that's why. I'm working on it, I swear.

To that end! I still want to send Christmas cards this year to those who would like them, but there's no chance in high heaven that I'm going to be able to do ficbits for you, unless you want the cards to arrive in, like, March. Sorry. I may be able to be tempted into doing a Second Christmas round this coming summer, because it's always fun to get stuff in the post, but we shall see.

Man, there's like no fiction getting posted here recently. Sorry.

I return! *bows* Well, technically I returned yesterday, but there's always stuff to catch up on after being away so I was kind of busy. Also, I hadn't checked LJ or my email since last Monday, so I had a lot of backlog to go through. *grins*

My convention was very good! A little colder than I would have liked as there's walking both from the hotel to the convention and from one part of the convention to another (it takes up half of a convention centre and public rooms in three different hotels), but there was no rain which I count as a win. Our costumes turned out well, although we were totally working on them right up until the moment we left the hotel, which is always a bummer. So many little details that take four million times longer than you expect them to. I do not have pictures yet because I was not the person whose camera was used, but I shall try to post some on the weekend.

And I have nothing else to say!

Wow, it's the end of May. Can someone tell me when that happened?

petite_madame! I am so very excited, you have no idea. Nearly did a spit take at my computer screen when I found out, I kid you not. Now I just have to make sure that I can turn the disaster of a rough draft I've got right now into a story that measures up to the fantastic art she's doubtlessly going to produce. :P

I'm pretty stoked about my story this year. It's rather different from my normal fare, so I hope y'all will like it when posting time comes around.

Here's the summary I submitted for artist claims:
There are a lot of tools of Jared's trade: green thread for hope, copper plating for endurance, silver needles for vitality. In a world where heartbreak is a literal condition, it's Jared's job to sew, patch and mend the physical wounds left in people's hearts by lost loves, misunderstandings or betrayals.

When a killer attacks Jensen - the man who's responsible for the purple stain of unrequited love on Jared's heart - and steals half of his broken heart, Jared discovers that a needle and thread, desperation and a sharp scalpel are enough to let him sew part of his own heart onto what's left of Jensen's. But, as Jensen recovers, they both realize that Jared's procedure may have done more than save Jensen's life. His actions will tie them together in a way that goes far deeper than flesh.

So, my

In other news! We have had much snow and it is awesome. I have spent a lot of time shoveling of my driveway. The snow piles at the end of my driveway are actually taller than me. Admittedly, I am short, but five foot+ snow piles are not to be scoffed at. Also, you can tell you're in Canada when people a) keep shovels in their trunks and b) get out of their cars to shovel the highway. Boo yeah.

Just a quick note to say thank you to all of you lovely people who wished me a happy birthday yesterday; it was a surprise and a delight to receive all your well-wishes. It was a very nice birthday: I spent the day playing board games (anyone else tried 'Defenders of the Realm'? It was good fun), then went out dancing in the evening. FUN FOR EVERYONE! Aand, I wrote nothing. Oops?
