Title: Never Mind, I'll Catch Up as We Go
Fandom: Never Mind the Buzzcocks Episode 22.11
Characters: Simon Amstell, Martin Freeman, Josh Groban
Rating: PG for language
Word count: 1655
A/N: Written for lyricalnights for the 2012 round of Yuletide. Anyone on my f-list who enjoys British humour and is not easily offended by non-PC jokes should absolutely watch this show. It's quick and snappy and never afraid to poke fun at anything or anyone. You can follow the link above to the first part of the relevant episode.

Summary: Mostly this is just banter. There is nothing in here but banter. Not even gonna pretend otherwise.

So the reveal for Yuletide happened earlier this week which means that I have things to post! Wrote two things for my recipient because I couldn't decide which prompt I liked better.

Also, I was all about Martin Freeman this year, apparently.

Title: Pirates! In an Adventure with Librarians
Fandom: Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists! (2012)
Characters: Pirate Captain, Pirate with a Scarf
Rating: G
Word count: 4925
A/N: Written for lyricalnights for the 2012 round of Yuletide. This movie is ridiculous and I love it. I also love the Pirate with a Scarf, especially when he's dealing with the madness that is the Pirate Captain's general outlook on life.

Summary: "You there," the Pirate Captain said. "Librarian with a Scarf."

I hope everyone out there in Internet-land had a lovely Christmas full of joy, prezzies and good company. ^_^ Mine has been very nice, albeit busy. And guess who totally got a copy of The Hobbit in Latin? AWESOME.

It's Yuletide time again! I ended up on the Pinch Hit list this year but I absolutely don't care because I got, not one, but TWO absolutely delightful stories. Both for the film Love Actually.

Title: Down At Your Door (3646 words) by faviconbluestalking
Fandom: Love Actually (2003)
Relationships: Billy Mack/Joe
Summary: “So,” he says into a lull of Billy’s somewhat lopsided conversation. “Do you really not know what you’re doing for Christmas?”

This was such a lovely, real look at these two and the way it hurts people when they don't understand each other. Joe's self-denigrating opinion of himself makes my heart hurt and Billy's voice is absolutely pitch perfect. Also, adorable ending.

Title: Life, Actually (2104 words) by faviconChokolatteJedi
Fandom: Love Actually (2003)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Harry/Karen, David/Natalie (Love Actually), Joanna/Sam (Love Actually), Juliet/Peter, Aurelia/Jamie Bennett, Judy/Jack (Love Actually)
Summary: Life, actually, goes on.

This feels like it could be a bonus timestamp in the DVD extras; it really truly captures the lovely, messy, hopeful feel of the movie. All the characters are wonderfully in character and have grown and shifted since the last time we saw them in very believable ways. A great feel-good story.

Christmas love to everyone!
The Yuletide reveal has happened! This was my offering:

Title: Together, Our Direction is Up
Fandom: Tintin
Characters: Tintin, Captain Haddock (epic bromance!)
Rating: G
Word count: 3255
A/N: Written for [livejournal.com profile] halotolerant for the 2011 round of Yuletide. I have been a dorky big fan of Tintin pretty much since I was old enough to read so this was great fun to write. Oh, and the new movie is good fun; some parts were a bit silly (the flying ships in the battle between the Unicorn and Red Rackham's ship, anyone?), but they got Tintin's character down pat and there were a lot of great nods to the books for those who knew them.

Summary: In the end, neither of them are fully themselves without the other.

( Tintin without the Captain is like… a Thompson without a Thomson )

Yuletide is live and I received a story and a treat! Because I am lucky that way.

Date Night by Dsidhe
Fandom: Honeydew Syndrome
Pairing: Josh/Metis
Rating: G
Word count: 1039
Summary: Metis and Josh on a date, their style

Dating fic! Josh and Metis being awkward and adorable and trying to make a relationship work despite social stigmas, unhelpful friends (*cough*Charles!*cough*) and parents. They're just too cute together and it's awesome to see how well they can work together, despite everything. Also, there's blushing Metis, which I love.

And a treat! Also by Dsidhe! *hugs*

Games by Dsidhe
Fandom: Honeydew Syndrome
Pairing: Josh/Metis
Rating: G
Word count: 115
Summary: Josh and Charles talk about video games. Metis sides with Josh.

More Josh and Metis adorableness! I love watching them all geek out, especially Josh since it's one of the many things that goes against his 'jock' persona and one of the things that Metis especially likes about him. Also, the continual competition between Josh and Charles never fails to make me grin.

Happy Yuletide to me! And a very Merry Christmas to everyone out there in LJ-land! I hope it was fantastic!

EDIT: Okay, I kind of like the new tag-picker menu thing. So there's one possible benefit to the new release. *wry*
Title: Rhyme without Reason 2/2
Fandom: Dresden Files by Jim Butcher -- If you like magic in the modern world, witty narration and/or detective stories, you should read these books. Seriously.

Characters: Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, Thomas Raith, Mouse
Word count: 10,305 total *fist pump*

This was the problem with amateurs who had just enough magic mojo to get themselves in trouble. )
Happy New Year all! I hope it was enjoyable for everyone!

So the first order of business is a great big thank you to Kleenexwoman for writing to my prompt for Sara Bareilles' song Fairytales. Her fantastic story, Fairytales, figures the various princesses as participants in a reality show and looks at the darker side of the happily ever after that each of them was hoping to get. She neatly intertwines the original fairy tales, the song lyrics and her own unique spin on their stories into a whole that is bittersweet but ultimately lovely. This is really clever.

I was at once more and less productive than usual this year. I only wrote my main assignment, since I somehow managed to be both incredibly busy and a major slacker this Christmas season, but it's definitely the longest thing I've ever written in such a short time. It probably could have been easily twice the length if I'd left myself enough time to get really into it, but overall I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. This was a great opportunity to a) challenge myself to write in the first person and b) be as sarcastic as humanly possible. I also got to use my fairy encylopedia as a research tool which is always a bonus in my book.

Summary: Takes place a few months after the events of Blood Rites. Harry's got a new dog, a new brother and a slew of cases that centre around vanishing animals with anger management issues. Sometimes his life is weird even for him.

It probably said something disturbing about my life that a homicidal goose didn't even rank in the top end of my weird stuff that happens to Harry Dresden meter )

Now that the reveal for Yuletide has happened, here is the list of the Nursery Rhymes that I made mention of in my story for this year Rhyme without Reason. Enjoy!

I'm kind of boggled that some of these poems were considered appropriate for children )
Yuletide is done and posted! *pumps fist* I may take advantage of the edit option to make a couple small changes between now and Christmas (and I probably want to look at the tagging options because right now I'm only using the character ones), but other than that I am totally on top of things this year (a whole day early! This is a big deal for me guys!).

And now...I have a French exam to study for. orz

I hope y'all are having a good lead-up to Christmas!

This was my assignment for Yuletide this year and I can honestly say I had an absolute blast writing it. This was one of those stories that I didn't know I needed to write until I was given the prompt for it. ^__^ Gen with a focus on Chris (T-chan and Pon-chan), though I love D/Leon banter like you wouldn't believe so there's some of that in here as well. *sparkles*

Title: Brotherly
Written for: zopponde
Fandom: Petshop of Horrors
Rating: G
Warnings: none really
A/N: Chris' thoughts/speech is indicated :like this:

Summary: Chris makes a new friend, Leon gets rained on and most people/creatures learn a little something about what it means to be family.

Hide and seek in the Count's shop was always an adventure. )
