Hello all!

So RL is a little bit mental right now, but there have been some awesome things going on online that help make up for that.

Stuff, stuff, stuff )

I'm also offering up Christmas cards again this year to anyone (and I mean anyone) who would like seasonal greetings (and maybe a ficlet) from not-so-snowy Canada. :) If I've sent you a card in the past, can you please confirm whether or not your address has changed? Comments are screened in the event of addresses being listed, so just drop me a line below.

How's everyone else doing?

Hello to all my friends, old and new!

I have been utterly remiss in not posting about this sooner; I blame June for being utter bullshit.

Some very talented people have podficced some of my stories recently! \o/

Point the first!
[livejournal.com profile] jagnikjen created a podfic of my Mycroft-centric story En Passant for the most recent round of [livejournal.com profile] holmestice. Her Mycroft voice is wonderfully precise and crisp, and she makes what is, admittedly, a rather wordy story, flow very nicely. You can download it to listen here!

Point the second!
In a somewhat convoluted turn of events, [livejournal.com profile] electricmonk333 won [livejournal.com profile] applegeuse's podficcing services in a fandom auction and ended up getting a podfic of my story, Learn to Glow for Others' Good, AND both timestamps. Which means that I am the luckiest chick in the world, basically. :D [livejournal.com profile] applegeuse has a beautifully measured reading style, and she does a particularly amazing job at Jensen's voice, which I can't expect is easy. The contrast between Jensen's monotone and Jared's exuberance is great to listen to. You can access all three podfics on AO3 here!
Reveals for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang went up today! And I'm actually online for once, so here you go! :D

Kaleidoscope

As an empath, Jensen has been alone all his life.

It's only logical. Between being raised in a government facility and interacting with the rest of the world from behind mental walls strong enough to keep out a jumbo jet, Jensen hasn't exactly developed the interpersonal skills most people consider necessary for daily life.

Of course, now that he's created an empathic - and romantic - bond with Jared, alone is the last thing that Jensen would describe himself as. From meeting the parents to having to interact with Jared's friends who definitely don't approve of him, Jensen is finding that having at least a few interpersonal skills would come in handy. He's also quite legitimately concerned that the government is out to get him, judging by all the strongly worded summonses he keeps finding in his mailbox.

All he can say is that he hopes true love is worth all this effort.

Aand if the premise sounds somewhat familiar, it's because this is a loooooong-overdue sequel to my timeless classic, "Learn to Glow for Other's Good". :P It is totes not going to be worth the five year wait, but here it shall be nonetheless. Huzzah!

I had the excellent fortune of being chosen by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] pennydrdful, who already has some amazing ideas about how to illustrate this story. Look forward to some fantastic stuff from her! Exciting!

Hello LJ-land! Long time no see! orz

I have a couple of backlogged challenge stories to repost here over the next little while (because I am just that kind of organized), and I successfully submitted a draft for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang, so see if you can spot me in the claims at the end of the week. ;) One of these days, I also intend to reply to all the lovely comments that people have left that I haven't answered yet. So if you get responses to year-old messages, it's because I'm full of fail.

In the meantime, though, I want to direct everyone's attention to this FANTASTIC art post that was done of one of my stories for the inaugural round of [livejournal.com profile] quicky_bang. Which is an amazing idea and, as I am a shameless hussy, I was all over the idea of getting some art for one of my stories.

[livejournal.com profile] stormbrite is a rockstar and decided to do art for Gratuitous Kitten Pin-Ups, which is actually the first thing that I ever wrote in the J2 fandom (for bonus dramatic irony, read my little preamble about writing RPS. I HAD NO IDEA). Ever since I wrote it, I have been yearning for someone to make me art of Jared covered in kittens and [livejournal.com profile] stormbrite delivered that in spades. So kudos to her for making my Jared-kitten dreams come true. Make sure to leave her all the love!

*explosive breath*

Every year, I wonder if Reversebang claims will be less crazy than usual and every year they are totally not. ILU FANDOM, even when you are madness on wheels.

I, in my very conspicuous first place, won a lovely and talented artist to work with and am totally looking forward to this prompt. SPN and dragons! One of these things is normal for me. The other one shall be an adventure. :D

I hope that everyone else got some awesome matches and that those artists still waiting know that you are also fantastic and someone is definitely still looking forward to working with you (No, seriously, two of my top five are still up there. I mean, what?).

Also, I was recently on vacation (in ENGLAND!), so expect a pointless collection of photos from me sometime soon.

*twirls* I love RBB!
Right, so my recent cosplay post has revealed that some of you poor people have never seen The Labyrinth, which is a tragedy of monumental proportions. To that end! I am wondering if anyone is interested in a Labyrinth watchalong.

How it works:

- We set a date/time that is convenient for the most people
- I provide links to the movie, with the options for streaming or download
- At the appointed time, we all begin
- I open a post on my journal for random comments as people watch, so it's like we're all watching in one big, intercontinental living room!
- PROFIT

This is, of course, also open to people who have seen the movie before - one can never watch The Labyrinth too many times.

Poll!
[Poll #1975118]
To that end, I have some cosplay pictures to share!

At the end of May (because that's how on top of these things I am right now), I went to my local anime convention with my sister. And we did The Labyrinth!

You remind me of the babe )

And speaking of the 1980s! How about a couple of other people's costumes that brought me right back to my childhood?
I missed him again!? (Presumably, only the Canadians will get this one)
Go, go, Gadget arm?

Also, we managed to find some maroon corduroy for my Dragoncon costume, which is awesome. Corduroy is hard to find, yo.

ILU LJ! :)

Behind the curve as ever, but here's my weigh-in on what's happening with me for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang this year.

My summary got picked up by [livejournal.com profile] washedstone, who is stunningly talented (seriously guys, it's a little ridiculous how these amazing artists keep being willing to work with me) and seems really lovely. I think we're going to be a good match. :)

This year's story = DRAGONS! Because someone's got to represent and everyone else seems to be busy with werewolves and hookers (or both).

This story is actually written for a prompt from [livejournal.com profile] usagimc who is quite possibly the most patient person in the world, since she won me in the AO3 Author Action a YEAR AGO. orz Aaand is now going to have to wait even longer for whenever my posting day is. Oops? It's an okay trade-off for a bid for a 3000 word story though, right? Right?

Summary! )
So, clearly I'm doing bugger nothing around here recently, but other awesome people are clearly picking up the slack. LOOK AT WHAT ODDISHLY HAS DONE FOR ME.

[livejournal.com profile] oddishly has podficced two of my stories for the AO3/OTW auction that was whenever ago, and they are truly awesome. Great intonation and tone, and she has a gorgeous accent (no matter what she might tell you otherwise). I'm pretty sure both stories are funnier when you listen to her read them, so you probably would be better served to listen rather than read. :)

When You're a Professional Pirate - read by [livejournal.com profile] oddishly here
AU. Jared's kind of in love with his first mate. Jensen kind of hasn't noticed. PG

With a Talent Like Yours - read by [livejournal.com profile] oddishly here
AU. Jensen figured that traveling with a wizard would be a lot easier if the man's damn familiar didn't hate him. PG

[livejournal.com profile] spnspringfling did its reveals this morning! I did an absolutely pants job at guessing what submission was whose, but this does mean that I can now officially gush about the wonderful story that I received from [livejournal.com profile] marciaelena: In the Meantime, which is a wonderful look at Sam and Dean in the quiet spaces between saving people, hunting things and fighting to save the world. There's a sense of wordless connection here that I absolutely adore and, like all of my favourite Wincest stories, it's impossible to find the line between being 'brothers' and being 'lovers' because they're so tangled up in each other that labels don't matter.

And here is my (somewhat cleaned up) offering! (Anybody guess it was mine? Didn't think so. *winks*)

Title: An Influence More Powerful
Fandom: Supernatural
Characters: Sam, Dean (gen)
Rating: G
Word count: 2045
Warnings: bittersweet, angst, mentions of canon character deaths
A/N: Written for [livejournal.com profile] keep_waking_up's wonderful prompt of 'Sam in Dean's jacket' for the 2013 round of [livejournal.com profile] spnspringfling. I rather doubt se was looking for angst, but my brain obviously thought this was a great idea. Originally posted here.

Summary: Touchstone [noun] - a criterion or standard by which something is judged or recognized.

Dean's jacket was warm )

YOU GUYS, YOU GUYS. [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang claims just happened and my summary got picked by the amazingly talented [livejournal.com profile] petite_madame! I am so very excited, you have no idea. Nearly did a spit take at my computer screen when I found out, I kid you not. Now I just have to make sure that I can turn the disaster of a rough draft I've got right now into a story that measures up to the fantastic art she's doubtlessly going to produce. :P

I'm pretty stoked about my story this year. It's rather different from my normal fare, so I hope y'all will like it when posting time comes around.

Here's the summary I submitted for artist claims:
There are a lot of tools of Jared's trade: green thread for hope, copper plating for endurance, silver needles for vitality. In a world where heartbreak is a literal condition, it's Jared's job to sew, patch and mend the physical wounds left in people's hearts by lost loves, misunderstandings or betrayals.

When a killer attacks Jensen - the man who's responsible for the purple stain of unrequited love on Jared's heart - and steals half of his broken heart, Jared discovers that a needle and thread, desperation and a sharp scalpel are enough to let him sew part of his own heart onto what's left of Jensen's. But, as Jensen recovers, they both realize that Jared's procedure may have done more than save Jensen's life. His actions will tie them together in a way that goes far deeper than flesh.

DUN DUN DUUUUUN!

There are a whole lot of other author-artist matches that I'm super excited to see happening, too; it's going to be a great bigbang year for sure!

*twirls*

(Also, if I've been a total flake replying to anything recently, I am sorry. It's been a bit of a crazy week or two).
