So, despite the fact that school's back in and my teachers are already quite keen on burying me in homework (why did I take the Lucian course, for the love of god!), I am feeling all jittery and not concentrating. So! I has meme, sort of.
Quote me a sentence from your favourite story that I've written. I'll write you a ficbit in the same continuum/verse/whatever. Please do not quote me from Blood Brothers since the rest of it is still coming (honest!). Oh, and if I can't identify what story the line comes from... erm, we'll figure something else out?
For now only one each and we'll see how long I can keep this up.
Go! Prompt! *waves hands*
EDIT: And since I'm running this on both mirrors of my journal, here is the link to the IJ version, in case anyone wants to read what's going on there. ^__^
EDIT THE SECOND: *yawns* So apparently my body says it's time for bed. *shakes fist at Monday morning classes* I will get to the few I've missed sometime this week, and people are free to keep playing for the next couple hours if they like. *waves* G'night all!

“Ahh,” Zack sighed contentedly, leaning back against the trunk of an old oak tree and stretching his legs out. A lazy breeze was drifting down from the direction of the village they’d passed through earlier, tousling his hair and bringing with it the warm summertime scents of grass and light and growing things. The afternoon sky was still bright despite the approach of evening, swathes of red and gold streaking elegantly between the orange-tinged clouds.
He breathed in deeply, enjoying the quiet. “There’s nothing like a warm summer evening.” He tilted his head to smile down at the figure reclining bonelessly against his chest. “Don’t you think, Cloud?”
“Hmm?” Cloud murmured absently. “It’s summer again?”
Not surprised by the answer, Zack just grinned and tugged Cloud closer, his arms caging comfortably around Cloud’s waist. “Yes, again,” he teased. “Which is why we’re camping out here tonight instead of paying for an inn.”
“Another summer.” Cloud’s voice was somber. “How many has it been now?”
Zack shrugged deliberately, the dry bark rasping against the backs of his shoulders. “I don’t know – a dozen or so? I’m starting to lose count.” He leaned in closer, blond hair tickling his cheek. “It’s Aventine in a fortnight or so, you know,” he confided. “Maybe we’ll find a village to stop in so we can join the celebrations.”
“Aventine,” Cloud murmured, a wistful smile that was almost equal parts wistfulness and quiet delight transforming his face from pleasant to breathtaking in a heartbeat. “You took me into the city for my first Aventine,” he remarked, nearly a question.
“Sure did,” Zack agreed, years of practice at dealing with Cloud’s particular brand of confusion making the not-quite-answer come easily to hand. “We ate three platters of spiced hind and ginger, then joined in the water dances.”
“I remember that.” Blue eyes flicked up to Zack’s face, cautiously disgruntled. “You threw me in the fountain.”
“But I joined you afterwards,” Zack countered. He let one hand skim lightly over Cloud’s stomach. “I can’t help it if you look damn good soaking wet.”
Cloud elbowed him in the ribs, a spark of the fearless boy who’d toppled him into the fountain all those years ago, and Zack grinned wider.
“We got garlands from the priestesses at the shrine of Gaia too,” he continued, almost hearing the bustle of the flushed festival crowd on the balmy breeze. His grin quirked. “And blessings for a long and happy union.”
“Oh spirits,” Cloud groaned, though he sounded more rueful than put out. “That was so embarrassing. We weren’t even paired at the time.”
Zack smiled and buried his face in the crook of Cloud’s neck. “Guess you can’t fool the gods – or their followers. We must be destined for each other after all.”
“Yeah,” Cloud answered, his voice as soft as the summer wind. He laced his fingers with Zack’s, his head resting against Zack’s black spikes. “Maybe we are.”
And really, Zack thought, he couldn’t ask for much more than that.
