So, despite the fact that school's back in and my teachers are already quite keen on burying me in homework (why did I take the Lucian course, for the love of god!), I am feeling all jittery and not concentrating. So! I has meme, sort of.
Quote me a sentence from your favourite story that I've written. I'll write you a ficbit in the same continuum/verse/whatever. Please do not quote me from Blood Brothers since the rest of it is still coming (honest!). Oh, and if I can't identify what story the line comes from... erm, we'll figure something else out?
For now only one each and we'll see how long I can keep this up.
Go! Prompt! *waves hands*
EDIT: And since I'm running this on both mirrors of my journal, here is the link to the IJ version, in case anyone wants to read what's going on there. ^__^
EDIT THE SECOND: *yawns* So apparently my body says it's time for bed. *shakes fist at Monday morning classes* I will get to the few I've missed sometime this week, and people are free to keep playing for the next couple hours if they like. *waves* G'night all!

I really do admire your work, and your ability to write completely in character while simultaneously working in fantastic pieces of fantasy and imagination

okay well now I'm going to go back and choose carefully, because honestly I love them all (and I forget you can't read this in real time, so insert jeopardy music here)
I'm not sure if this one is off limits, if it is that's totally fine and i can easily snag another quote from something else :)
(and I'm a total sucker for these scenes, where you mix fighting and shipping seamlessly)
"...shocked and shaking as he pointed over the wall at the dark mass bleeding over the grass a goodly distance away from the gate. With a single swipe even, and not a scratch on his own person. The other had not fought, the Guardsmaster continued, words tumbling rapidly across his murmuring audience, but neither had he fled, hand steady on his sword hilt and bright eyes intent on his companion."

Anyway!
~~
To say it had been a shock, that first time, would have been an understatement.
Cloud was used to watching Zack fight. It was what the Katako did, after all, and Zack was better at it than most. There’d been far too many times when Cloud had just stood and stared as Zack took down a sparring partner or a frost wolf with a grin and a sweeping keen of well-honed metal, the deadly grace of his movements leaving Cloud completely overwhelmed by the sheer beauty that was Zack nar Fair in action.
It had become even more common of an occurrence afterwards, slumped against a tree or huddled weakly in the dirt as Zack tangled with monsters and men who had once been his friends, his smile going grim around the edges and the whirl of his sword no longer so joyful as it had once been. Which was Cloud’s fault, mostly, for making Zack worry, and he struggled to hide the agony that wracked his body in the wake of Hojo’s magic, the changes that were turning the once-familiar world into a strange, twisting place where whole days passed in which Zack was the only thing that made sense anymore.
In his more lucid moments, Cloud figured that Zack making sense was probably a worrying indication of just how weird his life had become.
They’d been on the run for the better part of a season when the naga Zack’s sword was buried in turned out to have backup, a sharp curse tumbling past Zack’s lips as he whirled towards the second snaky shape streaking towards him through the grass, too fast to dodge.
Cloud’s hand was around the creature’s tail before he’d even realized he’d moved, his other hand driving up to seize the naga’s throat as it wheeled, his fingers glowing through the thick weave of his gloves.
A sharp flex of his wrist and the naga’s head exploded in a shower of blood and tissue, the thing’s body jerking spasmodically in his grip and splattering gore all over his face. Cloud let it drop to the floor and breathed a shaky breath, head swirling.
“Nice job,” Zack complimented and Cloud jerked up, horrified, only to find Zack smiling at him with a strangely proud gleam in his grey eyes. “Poor beastie didn’t stand a chance.”
“I… that wasn’t… I don’t…” Cloud stammered and Zack was there to catch him when his knees buckled under him.
“Easy,” Zack soothed, looping one of Cloud’s arms around his shoulders as he started their feet back along the path. “It’ll take you a while to get used to using your powers like that.”
Cloud blinked wearily. “Huh?”
Zack grinned. “You’re a katako now, remember? We’re gonna have to buy you a sword,” he continued, free hand coming up to swipe a smear of blood off Cloud’s cheek. “It’s a lot less messy.” His eyes sparkled. “And then I get to watch you fight.”

i felt sort of bad asking for something from Wild Ones because i know you have a lot on your plate and it's one of them, so thank you so much for writing something :D
i just-keyboard mashing doesn't do justice to how much i love the fighting sequences you write, and you make me want to smoosh zack and cloud together, regardless of blood and guts and dead monster bits on them
From:

The thin with Wild Ones is that pretty much the whole excessively large backstory is written in my head (even though I'm not sure it'd ever get attention in the actual, y'know story), so it's kind of fun to do these earlier bits while still being TERRIBLY VAGUE AND UNHELPFUL.
And I kind of hate fight scenes (I feel like I suck lots at them), so I'm flattered to hear you disagree with me.

Who was grinning at him in a very familiar way.
“Lay it on me, babe,” he said, in the tone he usually reserved for trying to convince Cloud to do something completely outrageous. “I can take it.”
Because I love stories where Cloud and Zack get back together ;)

Warnings for ZCA and Cid
Aeris darted past in a flash of pink and streaming hair and Zack scooped her up with a delighted shout, laughing as he spun her around like she weighed nothing at all. Riku was immediately swarmed by Sora and Kairi, Kairi’s gentle chiding for going off without them easily overwhelmed by Sora’s excited demands to know how things had gone and had Hercules said hi and who was the cool guy hugging Aeris who looked just like Cloud but happier. Over in the corner, Merlin chuckled indulgently and suggested to a bemused Leon that he might want to sit down before he fell over. Cid simply rolled his eyes at the whole lot of them and stumped off to put on a pot of tea, his muttered ‘crazy fucking SOLDIERs’ clearly audible despite the chaos.
Cloud mostly tried to stay out of the way, his tongue tying in knots and a lump building in his throat as he watched Zack kiss Aeris right there in the middle of everything, the pair of them still looking as perfect together as they always had.
And then Zack reached out and hooked a firm hand around Cloud’s nape, reeling him in.
“You too,” he declared, and that was all the warning Cloud got before the wet warmth of Zack’s mouth set about driving the thoughts straight out of his head. Aeris gave a happy little sigh and snuggled closer, sandwiching Cloud between her soft curves and the solid line of Zack’s chest. Not that Cloud was complaining.
There was a thud as something hit the floor to the sound of Riku laughing, but Cloud was too busy trying to remember how to breathe while kissing to pay much attention.
He was breathing hard and clinging to Zack’s shoulders by the time Zack drew back, a decidedly smug expression lingering around his bruised lips.
“Zack,” Cloud gasped, needy and low, and there was another thud from somewhere over by the table.
Zack chuckled. “Oh yeah,” he murmured, pulling the look in his eyes making Cloud’s face warm alarmingly. “I’ve definitely missed this.”
“Along with your fucking manners it looks like,” Cid declared as he wandered back in with mug in hand, the disgruntled tone not quite hiding the gruff approval beneath. He gave Zack a narrow look. “Introduce yourself before you start making out with the house guests. And get the hell off the floor Leon,” the man said over one shoulder. “You look like an idiot.”
“You too Sora,” Riku said by the door, he and Kairi hoisting a shell-shocked Keyblade Master carefully to his feet. “We’ve got quite a story for you.”
“Do we ever,” Zack agreed. He winked at Cloud. “And it’s the ‘happily ever after’ kind too, right Spike?”
“Sap,” Cloud accused, not minding in the slightest. The identical expressions on Zack and Aeris’ faces suggested that they were pretty okay with it too.

That line keeps giving me such happy images, and I don't blame Leon for falling over because he, as you said, didn't know better about Cloud.
...and I have to wonder if that was Sora's first experience to the idea of a threesome, or if Riku and Kairi got to him first (or if he got ideas after, I dunno).
"But...there's three of them! And Zack and Cloud are both guys!"
"I thought you didn't have a problem with that sort of relationship."
"I don't! But Aeris is there too, so how does that work?"
"It's called a threesome, Sora."
"...you mean this happens often?"
"Well, maybe not often, but it happens, and though rare, it's generally accepted."
"...huh..."
"Sora, stop trying to think."

“It’s a good thing I love you,” Cloud said lightly, helping Zack steer them both over to the bed. “Because you’re absolutely insane.”
“Oh good,” he observed, cloak fluttering to the floor as Cloud’s clever hands came up to help him with the fastenings on his shirt. “I was worried this was normal.”
Tomorrow would come more than soon enough, complete with overly interested villagers and nigh impossible quests. But for now, watching darkness play smoothly across Cloud’s face and listening to the beat of his own heart as he slipped down into his lover’s embrace, Zack was more than content to forget about the world for just a little bit. This was more than enough for him.
Its just me again. I absolutely adored the end of this chapter sooo uhhh tell me if you can work with it and if not then ill go get something else. Yay! ^^

“Ahh,” Zack sighed contentedly, leaning back against the trunk of an old oak tree and stretching his legs out. A lazy breeze was drifting down from the direction of the village they’d passed through earlier, tousling his hair and bringing with it the warm summertime scents of grass and light and growing things. The afternoon sky was still bright despite the approach of evening, swathes of red and gold streaking elegantly between the orange-tinged clouds.
He breathed in deeply, enjoying the quiet. “There’s nothing like a warm summer evening.” He tilted his head to smile down at the figure reclining bonelessly against his chest. “Don’t you think, Cloud?”
“Hmm?” Cloud murmured absently. “It’s summer again?”
Not surprised by the answer, Zack just grinned and tugged Cloud closer, his arms caging comfortably around Cloud’s waist. “Yes, again,” he teased. “Which is why we’re camping out here tonight instead of paying for an inn.”
“Another summer.” Cloud’s voice was somber. “How many has it been now?”
Zack shrugged deliberately, the dry bark rasping against the backs of his shoulders. “I don’t know – a dozen or so? I’m starting to lose count.” He leaned in closer, blond hair tickling his cheek. “It’s Aventine in a fortnight or so, you know,” he confided. “Maybe we’ll find a village to stop in so we can join the celebrations.”
“Aventine,” Cloud murmured, a wistful smile that was almost equal parts wistfulness and quiet delight transforming his face from pleasant to breathtaking in a heartbeat. “You took me into the city for my first Aventine,” he remarked, nearly a question.
“Sure did,” Zack agreed, years of practice at dealing with Cloud’s particular brand of confusion making the not-quite-answer come easily to hand. “We ate three platters of spiced hind and ginger, then joined in the water dances.”
“I remember that.” Blue eyes flicked up to Zack’s face, cautiously disgruntled. “You threw me in the fountain.”
“But I joined you afterwards,” Zack countered. He let one hand skim lightly over Cloud’s stomach. “I can’t help it if you look damn good soaking wet.”
Cloud elbowed him in the ribs, a spark of the fearless boy who’d toppled him into the fountain all those years ago, and Zack grinned wider.
“We got garlands from the priestesses at the shrine of Gaia too,” he continued, almost hearing the bustle of the flushed festival crowd on the balmy breeze. His grin quirked. “And blessings for a long and happy union.”
“Oh spirits,” Cloud groaned, though he sounded more rueful than put out. “That was so embarrassing. We weren’t even paired at the time.”
Zack smiled and buried his face in the crook of Cloud’s neck. “Guess you can’t fool the gods – or their followers. We must be destined for each other after all.”
“Yeah,” Cloud answered, his voice as soft as the summer wind. He laced his fingers with Zack’s, his head resting against Zack’s black spikes. “Maybe we are.”
And really, Zack thought, he couldn’t ask for much more than that.
