All kinds of massive thank yous to my lovely and talented artist
inkruns! *applause* She has been unfailingly enthusiastic and supportive, and so understanding when RL held me up. Her art is gorgeous and this story would not be anything at all without her wonderful premise and her support all the way through. Kudos to you, hon!
Summary: When Jared moved to the country, he thought he'd left loud and chaotic back in the steam-powered copper-and-stone world of the city. He was right, up until a chance encounter with a wounded runaway turned his quiet little life into a not-so-quiet little life when the man's mysterious past started catching up with them.

EDIT:
cassiopeia7 has done some simply fabulous bonus art depicting one of the final scenes in the story (insert obligatory spoiler warning here). Check it out here!
UPDATE:
This story has undergone a rather large and much needed edit since its initial posting. Anyone who has a copy of the PDF that he/she downloaded before February 2013 should download the new version linked above (it's much better, trust me).

OH.MY.GOD!!!
I love the opening - love Jared with the little boy!! Love your description of Yousil and all of Jared's excitement of the machine - the adorable boy-in-a-candy-shop-glee as well as the vestige of nostalgia. Love how the relationships between the boys develop - Jensen was soooo damaged and defensive at the beginning - but I'm glad Jared had managed to show him that there's still kindness in the world. Love their banters towards the end! (and that 'stupid, stubborn man' :melts:)
Jared's comment about dragons making lousy pets both warmed my heart and made me smile - seeing it from Jensen's point of view, it must feel kinda good to realise that Jared doesn't look at dragons as pets but something mystical and magical and majestic.
Thanks for such a lovely read, hun ;)!

Jared has come to the conclusion that being an adult means knowing when it's okay to be immature; he takes advantage of this all the time. *grins*
And yeah, he completely contradicted everything Jensen knew or thought he knew about humans. It took him a long, long time to realize that Jared actually was a good man; Jensen was that close to up and running when he saw Jared's workshop and it was only what he knew about Jared that kept him there long enough to hear him out. *hugs him*
Thank you, hon!

There was a PDF, but this story recently went through some major and much needed revisions and I took the link down because the original version was really kind of embarrassing. I am nearly finished putting together an updated PDF (I need to do another read-through for the typos I know are in there) so, as long as you don't mind waiting a day or two, I can send you a copy when it's done.
