I have come up with a masterful solution to my grief at editing my story for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang.

BANTER

No, really! It solves so many problems! For example:

  • Transition scenes? Add banter to make it less dull

  • Background info? Use banter to break up the delivery

  • Character development? Banter on top of banter

  • Random encounter? Banter is a completely appropriate attack option

  • Angst? ... okay, probably not so helpful here

  • Sex scenes? Are probably good to go, but there's always room for banter between the sheets (or against the wall, or in the shower, etc etc)

It's actually working surprisingly well. At least for the sections that I'm working on right now.

...It is possible that my story is going to involve a lot of snark. I'm sure everyone is shocked.

hahaha, that works for those who can successfully write banter XD which is where I'm screwed. On the other hand, sounds like an awesome idea... so it's worth a shot, even if it's not amazingly clever banter

*grin* I know you're not in my current fandoms (SPN RPS in this case), but the banter between the two main 'characters' is one of the best things about the fandom; it's unbelievable how much snark gets thrown in.

But yeah, I'm in one of those 'here is a new place with a lot of important but not so interesting background info to get through' parts so I'm trying to use the banter to break up the boring and speed up the pace. Some of it's not very clever, but it's better than what I'd written previously.

And the world can always use more banter. ^_^

noooo, I am in that fandom! Jared and Jensen are amazing, and one of the best fics () I've ever found was in this fandom. And yeah, their snark is hilarious ♥

and oh, you're right, even if it's not all that clever, it's always better than what was there before.

I did not know this! How exciting!

And I can't get your link to work, but there are a lot of really talented writers in the SPN and SPN RPS fandoms, so I have no doubt you found an excellent story in it.

bwahaha, it's "My brains are no match for your tractorbeam" or something like that, and I'm extremely picky about the fics I read because... I don't know, but it looks like I have fairly high standards in writing -_-;; but this one was so good that I've read it 3 times and I actually convinced some of my straight friends to read the first chapter just cause it was so funny XD

But actually, I didn't know that you were in the fandom. I'm not active in it at this point, but I still geek over the boys and I'm so behind on teh series - I need to finish the 5th and watched the 6th -_-;;

Ah, that's one of [livejournal.com profile] poor_choices'/[livejournal.com profile] longsufferingly's. She's probably my favourite writer in the entire fandom and I would recommend pretty much everything she's written. That story actually also has several sequels (http://www.delicious.com/longsufferingly/pairing%3Aj2+verse%3Atractorbeam) if you haven't read them, and you can find a list of timestamps at the end of this post (http://j2-recs.livejournal.com/77774.html). *fangirls the fangirl*

And yes! I have only been in the fandom for about a year and a half, though I've been writing since last fall. I'm still not done season six yet, and I admit that I often have more love for J2 fic than SPN fic, mostly because the stories are just so much happier. Most of my (scanty) output these days is J2, and the monstrosity this post is referring to is nearly 40k of J2 interstellar spy AU. I am okay with my life choices.
