I am going on vacation in two days! Exciting! However, I would most definitely rather do this meme than start packing, so please ask away!

1. Describe yourself how you would describe a character you’re introducing.

2. Is there any specific ritual you go through while/before/after your writing?

3. What is your absolute favorite kind of fic to write?

4. Are there any other fic writers you admire? If so, who and why?

5. How many words can you write if you sit down and concentrate intensely for an hour?

6. First fic/pairing you wrote for? (If no pairing, describe the plot)

7. Inspiration, time, or motivation. Choose two.

8. Why do you choose to write?

9. Do you ever have plans to write anything other than fic?

10. What inspires you the most?

11. Weirdest thing you’ve ever written/thought about writing/etc.?

19. Why did you start writing?

20. 4 sentences from your work that you’re proud of?

Is it okay if I ask?

Number 11, please ^_^

You almost got something about me crossdressing at anime conventions, but instead I appear to have written an unnecessarily long thing about me walking across the street. I don't even know.

---

Rush hour sucked.

He slumped lower behind the wheel as the lights turned to red, just too soon for him to be able to get through them. He drummed his fingers impatiently on the wheel and wished he could instantly transport himself from here to home. The chance would be a fine thing.

Unexpected motion caught his eye, and he looked over to see a young woman about his age walking across the street.

He found his attention caught first by her hair with was a) unusually short for a woman and b) longer on the right side than the left. It should have looked punky and strange, but the way she'd paired it with delicate jewelry, big sunglasses, pressed trousers and a Doctor Who t-shirt turned it instead into some strange sort of business casual geek chic that really shouldn't have worked as well as it did.

Her smartly-heeled shoes did little to give the impression that she was anything other than short, but the confidence in her stride made it clear that the world was dead wrong if it thought that bothered her. She was bobbing her head in time with her iPod, lips mouthing the words to well-known lyrics, and seemed, by all accounts, completely oblivious to the world around her.

She was across the intersection and halfway down the sidewalk by the time the lights changed, and he had the sour thought that, even on foot, she was probably going to get home before he did.

*grins* The title quote seems sort of refined until I admit that I was thinking of the Muppet version, not Dickens' book. OH WELL.

9. Yes? I mean, I've wanted to be an author since I was a kid, and I've always had the vague intention of trying to get something published someday. I have a decent number of fics that I've written that I think have the potential to be original fiction - or, at least, have worlds that I could tell other stories in - but I have never actually written anything with the purpose of trying to get it published.

Fanfic has been both good and bad for me as a writer, since it has given me space to (hopefully) improve my craft but the fact that it gives me an audience diminishes my 'need' to try and publish, if that makes sense. I still do, one day, intend to try to get something published, but my slacker-self hasn't got around to it yet.

Unless this question was about writing, like, screenplays and free verse poetry, in which case no I haven't got any plans of that. :P

15. I have a terrible fondness for tropes (which is probably obvious from my Masterlist!), but if I had to say a general guilty pleasure, it'd probably have to be happy endings. I do try to be realistic about the trials and tribulations that my characters face, but I very rarely write stories that end badly. There's enough of that in the real world, I think. *is a sap*

Eeeeee! This was insanely cute and fun, just as I suspect you are :D

It is totally okay if you ask! Thank you for joining in! :D

11. I once wrote a Final Fantasy story that was all about playing tiddlywinks, which was pretty freaking weird. Also, [livejournal.com profile] spnanthology is tailor-made for weirdness, although my chapter is awfully tame compared to some of the amazing zaniness that the other ladies came up with.

Weirdest thing I've ever thought about writing is tougher, because I tend to get all sorts of weird ideas that come and then go once I have determined that they're ridiculous. Stuff like turning them all into cats, or a J2 version of Settlers of Catan.

*laughs* Well, I'm definitely a little insane. And I do love rocking out to my music while walking down the street. :)

lol, which Final Fantasy?

And your weird thoughts sound fantastic, tbh ^_^

4. Are there any other fic writers you admire? If so, who and why?

I'm always so curious as to who some of my favorite writers like to read :)

*laughs* It was a crossover of FFVIII and FFIX, just to make it even sillier. The Blowup (http://cleflink.livejournal.com/13853.html)

I know I've had a million other dumber ideas, but I can't think of any right now (of course).

Gosh, there are a bunch of authors whose work I really enjoy; it's hard to narrow it down to just a couple! My biggest problem with a long-running fandom like SPN/J2 is that a lot of really fantastic authors have come and gone. My favourite SPN/J2 author is still [livejournal.com profile] longsufferingly, even though she is no longer in the fandom. Her sense of humour is wonderful and, even now, I read her stories when I need cheering up.

I really like [livejournal.com profile] flawedamythyst's work, as well. She's not in the SPN/J2 fandom anymore, sadly, but I am also in Sherlock fandom and her Sherlock fic is amazing. She is also a master of humour and banter, which is pretty typical of what draws me to certain stories/authors over others. Don't get me wrong, a good plot and a fun premise are also important, but I always seem to have the most love for authors who can balance humour with the action/romance/angst/whatever.

...that being said, one of the active ladies in the fandom whose work I really enjoy is [livejournal.com profile] cherie_morte, and she always seems to make me cry, so. Guess it depends on the day!

From: [identity profile] cleflink.livejournal.com

*laughs* I'm not sure I really have any! All of my stories seem to go through the same process, but that's more a case of procrastinate-procrastinate-complain-procrastinate-freak out-stay up all night finishing the story-post story-SLEEP. Which I do not recommend to anyone, including myself. :P

I guess the one writing technique that I do use is that I have a little spiral notebook that I use for brainstorming and asking myself questions about how the story is going to progress. It's very stream-of-consciousness and I like the way it lets me bounce back and forth through the storyline and focus on whatever bit I happen to be thinking of at that time. For some reason, I find that the physical act of writing down the plot issues I have - along with the possible solutions/options I have come up with - actually helps me think of better solutions. I also tend to have multiple stories on the go at the same time, so I number the pages for what story they refer to, which allows me to work on whichever one currently I've got in mind, then switch over to something else without having to be finished with the first story.

And just for the hell of it, here is a scan of the first two pages of brainstorming for 'The Beat of Our Noisy Hearts'. As you can see, the original idea was rather different from where I ended up!

*grins* I've been told that I have a 'get out of my way, I'm busy' walk. Which, honestly, is a pretty useful thing to have.

Writing about oneself in the third person is weird!

From: [identity profile] deirdre-c.livejournal.com

Boo! I can't see the image you posted, but I LOVE the idea of a little writing notebook!! All those middle-of-the-night, or sitting-in-a-boring-meeting plot or dialog thoughts. It would be great to capture them at a moment's notice. Alas, my fic writing (and vidding) is completely on the down-low from all of my real life peoples, so I dare not risk leaving around evidence in the form of notes. :P

#TeamProcrastination! ♥

Well, that is unhelpful! I blame Google Drive! *shakes fist* Let's give it one more go:

My family knows I write fic - my mum and my brother actually helped me problem solve for this year's bigbang! - and I think my friends are sort of peripherally aware. But none of them are likely to go through my desk without my say-so, so I'm not really worried about anyone finding my notebook anyway.

#TeamProcrastinationFTW!

Ooooh. That's such a neat look inside your writing process! *claps hands*

From: [identity profile] cleflink.livejournal.com

*laughs* Inasmuch as I can be said to have a process, anyway!

Sorry for the delayed response; I am currently on vacation, so my Internet usage is rather spotty.

Just one? Well, I'm active/reading in four fandoms right now, so how about one of my favourites from each?
Something Borrowed, Something Blue (http://belyste.livejournal.com/19534.html) by [livejournal.com profile] belyste - J2
Fake boyfriends is one of my favourite tropes, and I find this story funny and enchanting every single time I read it.

The Last Outpost of All That Is (http://gekizetsu.net/sn/lastoutpost.htm) by gekizetsu - SPN - Wincest
This older story shows up on many people's favourite fic lists, and for good reason. THIS is the first story that sold me on Wincest as something that is actually logical and possible (rather than simply a 'and then they kissed' plot thing), and also as something that could actually be good for the boys and give them some of the happiness that they're never going to find with someone else. An epic, epic read.

Faerie Touched (http://blind-author.livejournal.com/18832.html) by [livejournal.com profile] blind_author - BBC Sherlock - Johnlock
I love stories about magic and I love John Watson being a total badass without people noticing, and this story delivers both in spades.

So Wise We Grow (http://archiveofourown.org/works/55410) by Deastar - Star Trek AOS - Kirk/Spock
I'm sure no one around here reads AOS fic, but this is a great mix of kidfic, first time romance and good old Star Trek exploring new worlds and meeting new peoples. I'm desperately in love with Deastar's rather battered but utterly loveable Kirk, and the Spock-voice is pitch perfect.

Really, I could talk about my favourite fics all day, but hopefully at least one of these looks like a good read to you!

Don´t appologize ;) I´m not online 24/7 ... nobody is. I´m so glad that you responded to this question, I just love people talking about their favorite fics ;) I didn´t have time to read those fics but both J2+wincest are on my "once... once when I have a life outside my work I will read it" list. I LOVE johnlock so thank you for another nice rec. I grew very fond of cathedral_carver http://archiveofourown.org/works/240007 (http://archiveofourown.org/works/240007) if you somehow didn´t know her - I suggest you to read something from her ;)

Thank you so much ;)
