Elegy for the Living (CWRPS AU, J2) MASTER POST

Title: Elegy for the Living
Author: [livejournal.com profile] cleflink
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] becc_j
Pairing: Jared/Jensen
Rating: PG
Word count: 23,250
Warnings: Temporary character death, angst
A/N: Written for [livejournal.com profile] spn_reversebang's 2012 round. Massive kudos and thank yous to the lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] becc_j with whom I had the pleasure and honour to collaborate this round. I loved her prompt from the moment I saw/heard it; it was gorgeous and intriguing and gave me the opportunity to work with three things I love: J2, Greek mythology and Spirited Away. A million thank yous, my dear - it's been an absolute delight working with you! Go check out her fantastic art post and tell her how amazing she is! This story is influenced by both the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice and the Studio Ghibli film Spirited Away. It is not necessary to have knowledge of either to read this.

Summary:“Great,” Jensen muttered. “I’m going into the Underworld to get my best friend's soul back armed with the power of song. How could that possibly go wrong?” A modern myth.

*waves shyly* thank you so much for the lovely comment, but more importantly omg!! It's here! you included artwork! I am crying tears of joy!
And a PDF? Wow, I am getting that when it comes out for sure. Thank you so much for writing such a great story (still reading btw), and for holding my hand in my first ever J2 project. You were the perfect partner for this collaboration. <3

*massive hugs* How could I not include the artwork? It's phenomenal! And I feel totally spoiled that you did so much. If the story's any good, it's because I had such a lovely partner in crime to encourage me.

It has been my pleasure to work with you; I'd do it anytime! And, of course, seducing people to the dark side of RPS is always good fun. ^_^

You rock. :D

Here's the PDF!
Thought this story deserved a PDF pretty fast ^^

Thank you very much! ^_^

The reason I took so long to post a PDF was because there were a couple of things that needed changing first (typos, picture placement, etc.), so I have uploaded another version of the PDF as well. I definitely appreciate that you went to the effort, though!

The completed PDF version is here (http://www.mediafire.com/?q1zcy9t6kqgyji4), if you're interested.

[livejournal.com profile] becc_j and I considered having a bittersweet ending, but I'm a big schmoop and happy endings are always better. Luckily, the joy of artistic license is that we didn't need to follow the myth that closely. ^_^

Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed!

Jared kind of objects to being the girl in this myth, but he can't really complain about results.

You're very welcome and I hope you enjoy!

Lovely story! I am intrigued by the spirits and the tickets. I wonder about how tickets for apartments are earned for example, and about the barter system. Lovely art, world building and characters. Please keep writing, I can't wait to read more of your stories!

Most shades live a 'normal' sort of afterlife; they have jobs, a regular schedule, colleagues, that sort of thing. Then they trade each other for things they want. A lot of the Huns aren't so interested in having apartments, for example. ^_~

I'm glad you enjoyed! Thank you!

I'm such a mythology geek, you have no idea. I gleed a lot when I saw [livejournal.com profile] becc_j's prompt and was so pleased when I managed to claim it.

I'm glad you enjoyed! Thank you!

Oh this was wonderful. I love how Jensen FINALLY clued in and his sheer determination for getting Jared back!

It's pretty sad when dying is the best way to make your best friend realize that, yes, he is actually in love with you. In touch with his emotions Jensen is not. He got there in the end, though!

Glad you enjoyed it, hon! Thank you for taking the time to let me know! ^_^
