Hello everyone! I hope that you all had a lovely time over Christmas. Mine was pretty restful, which was great until I was forced to admit that all of the work that I brought home over the Christmas break still had to be done, and I've done mostly nothing since work for the past three days. Safe to say, the weekend is not going to be more of the same. :P

The semester is nearly over! \o/ Which means that I'm moving into one of the two busiest months of my entire year, but my second semester should be a lot lighter on marking, which will hopefully help me balance my time better. *fingers crossed* One of these days, I will learn how to manage my marking, I am determined!

I'm trying very hard to have the rest of my [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_xmas fic posted before I go back to work on Monday. To the lovely people who commented on the original post, I shall respond to you once the rest is up so that you know that there's more to read. :P I'm also slowly trucking away on something for [livejournal.com profile] spn_reversebang, which is probably going to be my main fandom focus for the next little while. I have about a million WIPs on my computer right now, so one of my goals for 2017 is to finish as many of them as I can because it's getting ridiculous.

How are all of you doing?

Hello all!

So RL is a little bit mental right now, but there have been some awesome things going on online that help make up for that.

Stuff, stuff, stuff )

I'm also offering up Christmas cards again this year to anyone (and I mean anyone) who would like seasonal greetings (and maybe a ficlet) from not-so-snowy Canada. :) If I've sent you a card in the past, can you please confirm whether or not your address has changed? Comments are screened in the event of addresses being listed, so just drop me a line below.

How's everyone else doing?

*waves* Hello friends!

It has been a busy few weeks chez clef, let me tell you.

First of all, I do intend to finish all of the prompts that I got in my song meme, so thank you to everyone who contributed. Most of them are half-written, but I haven't had a chance to go back and get them done.

The reason for the delay is that my costume for Dragoncon wound up being FAR more time-consuming than I expected, with several setbacks that required some creative problem solving to work around. Turns out that wings are harder than they look!

Dressed in something girly for once! )

As soon as I got back from the convention, it was back to school! (Seriously, my flight was delayed, and then we had to drive from Buffalo airport into Canada, so I got home at, like, 3am, and was up at 7am to go to work). I'm at a new school this year, which is always intimidating, but everything and everyone seems good so far. I'm hoping to join the Age of the Geeks club as a teacher advisor. :D

I've signed up for both [livejournal.com profile] j2_reversebang (for which I've claimed an awesome prompt) and [livejournal.com profile] spn_reversebang. I love reversebangs. :) I'll be signing up for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_xmas as soon as I get my requests organized, and I'm slowly chugging away at my story for [livejournal.com profile] sherlock_remix. Oh, and I'm going to be making stuff up for heading up a discussion about world building at [livejournal.com profile] spn_writing next week, which I hope people will show up to so I'm not just talking into the void. Who needs sleep?

How are things with everyone else?
Hello LJ-land!

I have officially survived my first year as a full time teacher! \o/ And pretty much all I have done since finishing is sleep because June is balls. I'm starting to feel more human now, though, which is good because I'm leaving tonight to spend two weeks in the Netherlands. Vacation!

I had the utter joy of meeting [livejournal.com profile] dugindeep in person last weekend first the first time, which was awesome. I think we've known each other for about four years, which made it feel more like seeing a friend you haven't seen in a while instead of meeting someone new. And she's lovely, of course. I'm pretty sure everyone knew that. Thank you for visiting my poor, lonely Canadian self, my dear! It'll have to be a longer visit next time!

So, I know I've got a backlog of a couple of stories that I wrote for various challenges that never got reposted. I'll be posting two for sure today, and I'll figure out what else I might have missed. I've also got about a million ideas that wanted to be written when I was too busy to think about writing, so we'll see if they're still interesting now that I have time. My bigbang will be posting at the beginning of August, so you've all got that to look forward to, you lucky things. *grins*

How's everyone else doing?
Reveals for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang went up today! And I'm actually online for once, so here you go! :D

Kaleidoscope

As an empath, Jensen has been alone all his life.

It's only logical. Between being raised in a government facility and interacting with the rest of the world from behind mental walls strong enough to keep out a jumbo jet, Jensen hasn't exactly developed the interpersonal skills most people consider necessary for daily life.

Of course, now that he's created an empathic - and romantic - bond with Jared, alone is the last thing that Jensen would describe himself as. From meeting the parents to having to interact with Jared's friends who definitely don't approve of him, Jensen is finding that having at least a few interpersonal skills would come in handy. He's also quite legitimately concerned that the government is out to get him, judging by all the strongly worded summonses he keeps finding in his mailbox.

All he can say is that he hopes true love is worth all this effort.

Aand if the premise sounds somewhat familiar, it's because this is a loooooong-overdue sequel to my timeless classic, "Learn to Glow for Other's Good". :P It is totes not going to be worth the five year wait, but here it shall be nonetheless. Huzzah!

I had the excellent fortune of being chosen by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] pennydrdful, who already has some amazing ideas about how to illustrate this story. Look forward to some fantastic stuff from her! Exciting!
My writing output this year has been rather lower than I would like it to be and I have one month left of summer vacation so I am going to try to challenge myself to post one (short) story every day in August. And I would really appreciate your help coming up with things to write, denizens of LJ!

Types of prompts I'll accept:
- Timestamps
- Alternate POV timestamps (I love doing these jsyk)
- Entirely new story ideas

Every fandom on my Master List is fair game (you're also welcome to ask after others if you think I might know them).

I'll accept timestamp requests for any of my stories.

Since I don't know how many people will join in, you are welcome to give more than one prompt - just make a separate comment for each prompt, okay? And try not to overload me too much (unless you notice that you're the only one playing *wry*).

I'll leave this post up sort of indefinitely and then see what happens. Request now, think about it for a while and request later, realize on August 23 that you have a great prompt and request then, it's all good.

Go?

Behind the curve as ever, but here's my weigh-in on what's happening with me for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang this year.

My summary got picked up by [livejournal.com profile] washedstone, who is stunningly talented (seriously guys, it's a little ridiculous how these amazing artists keep being willing to work with me) and seems really lovely. I think we're going to be a good match. :)

This year's story = DRAGONS! Because someone's got to represent and everyone else seems to be busy with werewolves and hookers (or both).

This story is actually written for a prompt from [livejournal.com profile] usagimc who is quite possibly the most patient person in the world, since she won me in the AO3 Author Action a YEAR AGO. orz Aaand is now going to have to wait even longer for whenever my posting day is. Oops? It's an okay trade-off for a bid for a 3000 word story though, right? Right?

Summary! )
I've still got some stuff on the burner right now that I'm definitely working on first, but I haven't got the foggiest idea what to write for Bigbang this year and that's probably something I should be getting on (that's what she said). *cough* And tomorrow is a holiday, which makes this a great time to start brainstorming.

Which is why I need all of you to help me out here.

POLL![Poll #1957033]

MEME!
- Give me a prompt and I'll write you a one-two sentence comment fic!
- This can be related to the genre you pick in the poll or just because you'd like a comment fic. :)
- My hope is that something will spark an idea for a longer story, so give me your best shot!

Even if you have NEVER spoken to me, the fact that you read my stuff means that I would love to hear what you would like to see me write. So, please, comment away! I have also enabled anon commenting for the purposes of this post, if you don't want me to know that you want to talk to me. Er.

EDIT: The lovely akintay has informed me that crossovers are off the table for bigbang, but being inspired by something else is okay. Which is all I ever do anyway, so you can still pick that one if that's your thing. Also, I don't know how to edit polls.

Meme results if you want to see them )
Term one ended this past Friday! January apparently sucks balls for high school teachers: I have done nothing but mark and write report cards for the past two weeks. This is going to be an object lesson in how not to stress myself out come June.

So yes! Term two starts tomorrow, which I'm going to get to do right from the beginning, which I'm looking forward to. And my RBB is getting posted on Tuesday provided I finish it.... I have done, like, no writing recently, guys. I'm going into a little bit of withdrawal.

Also, we have had ridiculous amounts of snow this month. Never on days that would give me a snow day, of course, but I'd rather the snow to the cold. The number of times my car's been too cold to start is well past double digits by this point. How many months to summer?

I hope all is well with you lovelies! *hearts*
Wow, it's the end of May. Can someone tell me when that happened?

Once again, I've got waay too many things on my plate because I have no will power and all the comms are far too shiny to pass up. So this is a note for you (and me) to show that I do, in fact, have the intention of writing stuff sometime soonish.

My summer thus far:

May 24 - [livejournal.com profile] holmestice submission deadline - DONE!
June 2 - [livejournal.com profile] spnspringfling submission deadline - DONE!
As soon as possible - Rockstar!Jensen fundraiser story
Also as soon as possible - Dragon!Jared fundraiser story
Any time from now till June 25 - [livejournal.com profile] intoabar posting - DONE!
June 30 - [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen submission deadline - DONE!
August 1 - [livejournal.com profile] abo_bigbang draft deadline - DONE!
August 2 - [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang posting date with the absolutely wonderful [livejournal.com profile] petite_madame - DONE!
August 19 - [livejournal.com profile] evilsam_spn's Summer of Evil challenge posting day - DONE!

I MAKE AWESOME CHOICES.

Also, my anime con is next week and I'm going more than slightly mad getting costume stuff done, so there's not much getting done writing wise as a result. When I show you the pictures, I swear you will agree that this is a legitimate excuse.

I'll see everyone in a couple of weeks!
Calling all authors! The AO3 Fundraiser Auction is looking for authors to contribute their services to helping raise money for the Archive of Our Own. Authors can throw their names into the pot up until April 11. The auction lists go live on April 15, at which point everyone can start bidding to get a story from their favourite author(s). I have, perhaps foolishly, offered up my own services, and I'd love to see some of y'all joining in as well!

Details can be found here.

In other news, I have not finished my rough draft for bigbang. This should surprise no one.

So, my [livejournal.com profile] j2_everafter is going up this Wednesday. Here are some stats on the editing process:

Rough draft #1 = 5260 words
Rough draft #2 = 12,040 words

GOD DAMMIT. WHY DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN?

The final copy better as hell not be continuing on this trend or I might just die.

In other news! We have had much snow and it is awesome. I have spent a lot of time shoveling of my driveway. The snow piles at the end of my driveway are actually taller than me. Admittedly, I am short, but five foot+ snow piles are not to be scoffed at. Also, you can tell you're in Canada when people a) keep shovels in their trunks and b) get out of their cars to shovel the highway. Boo yeah.
The problem with anonymous challenges is that it looks like I've been totally unproductive this month (as opposed to only marginally unproductive). My submission for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_xmas still needs to be finished but, other than that, I'm officially done with my challenges/gift fics for 2012. \o/

Which means that it's time to start thinking about next year. So I want to ask y'all a question!

[Poll #1886421]

Of course this doesn't have anything to do with [livejournal.com profile] j2_everafter, why on Earth would you think that? *whistles innocently*

EDIT Dec 29: Stop being a smart-ass, Jen.
*waves* Sort of exciting things have been going on in the life of me, namely, my degree is finished! *fist pump* Which means that my post high school life looks mostly like this:

- Undergrad degree = get!
- Post Grad diploma = get!
- Masters degree = get!
- Another Undergrad degree = get!
- Job = ... orz

But still, yay for being done! And my annual anime con was the other week, which was great fun, as ever. And our costumes were awesomesauce.

On Friday we looked like this... )

And on Saturday/Sunday... )

I'm on the right in the first photo and the far left in the second. And my compatriot in the Friday photo is on the far right in the Sat/Sun one, if anyone cares. Amazing the difference a wig makes, ne? One of these days, I'll show you my Dean Winchester. ^_~

In other news! Not much really. My posting date for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang isn't until July 25 (which I am undertaking with the very talented [livejournal.com profile] mithborien), so I'll let you all wait eagerly for that *cough* while I dick around with some shorter bits.

That's it from me. Peace!

My working draft for my SPN/J2 Big Bang fic is a go! *triumphant fist pump* The story is not done done, but at least now all the scenes are there, I don't come off as a complete waste of writing space (hopefully) and the edits from here should be of the 'fix this paragraph' type rather than the 'rewrite this entire section'. Which is yay.

Soooo, f-list. Anyone out there have reccomendations for songs about a) secret agents, b) space adventures or c) secret agents going on space adventures? *halo*

It's also 55k which, while I know it's not a particularly large number for some people (I'm looking at you [livejournal.com profile] peppervl), is quite the accomplishment for me. Also, that's like 20k longer than the first draft was, which is my excuse for why I'm so slow. Posting in two weeks!

And kudos to all of y'all who have already finished your fics while I'm still flailing around in the background!

Of course, now this means I should probably pay some attention to the research work I'm supposed to be doing (for three different professors! Apparently the secret to being employed by my university is to stop going there). And more edits, of course. I'd really rather be writing something for [livejournal.com profile] blindfold_spn, though. We'll have to see what happens!

Also, I totally just wanted an excuse to use my new icon. I am too a writer! ^_~
I have come up with a masterful solution to my grief at editing my story for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang.

BANTER

No, really! It solves so many problems! For example:

  • Transition scenes? Add banter to make it less dull

  • Background info? Use banter to break up the delivery

  • Character development? Banter on top of banter

  • Random encounter? Banter is a completely appropriate attack option

  • Angst? ... okay, probably not so helpful here

  • Sex scenes? Are probably good to go, but there's always room for banter between the sheets (or against the wall, or in the shower, etc etc)

It's actually working surprisingly well. At least for the sections that I'm working on right now.

...It is possible that my story is going to involve a lot of snark. I'm sure everyone is shocked.

Saw Inception the other day. It was pretty epic. It's been a long time since I've seen a movie that actually encouraged the amount of debate that I've been having with other people who've seen it. And nobody's really wrong because there isn't actually a right answer, which is thematic and clever and not a little bit irritating. In a grudgingly admirable way, of course.

Although now I totally want to write some Eames/Arthur slash.

Also, does anyone else think that Cillian Murphy looks kind of like a shorter version of Tom Welling?

This time next month I (better as hell) will have a completed thesis! All I need to do is finish the damn thing. *dies* Anybody want to do it for me? 110 pages and counting!
