*waves* Hello friends!

It has been a busy few weeks chez clef, let me tell you.

First of all, I do intend to finish all of the prompts that I got in my song meme, so thank you to everyone who contributed. Most of them are half-written, but I haven't had a chance to go back and get them done.

The reason for the delay is that my costume for Dragoncon wound up being FAR more time-consuming than I expected, with several setbacks that required some creative problem solving to work around. Turns out that wings are harder than they look!

Dressed in something girly for once! )

As soon as I got back from the convention, it was back to school! (Seriously, my flight was delayed, and then we had to drive from Buffalo airport into Canada, so I got home at, like, 3am, and was up at 7am to go to work). I'm at a new school this year, which is always intimidating, but everything and everyone seems good so far. I'm hoping to join the Age of the Geeks club as a teacher advisor. :D

I've signed up for both [livejournal.com profile] j2_reversebang (for which I've claimed an awesome prompt) and [livejournal.com profile] spn_reversebang. I love reversebangs. :) I'll be signing up for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_xmas as soon as I get my requests organized, and I'm slowly chugging away at my story for [livejournal.com profile] sherlock_remix. Oh, and I'm going to be making stuff up for heading up a discussion about world building at [livejournal.com profile] spn_writing next week, which I hope people will show up to so I'm not just talking into the void. Who needs sleep?

How are things with everyone else?
Hello LJ-land!

I have officially survived my first year as a full time teacher! \o/ And pretty much all I have done since finishing is sleep because June is balls. I'm starting to feel more human now, though, which is good because I'm leaving tonight to spend two weeks in the Netherlands. Vacation!

I had the utter joy of meeting [livejournal.com profile] dugindeep in person last weekend first the first time, which was awesome. I think we've known each other for about four years, which made it feel more like seeing a friend you haven't seen in a while instead of meeting someone new. And she's lovely, of course. I'm pretty sure everyone knew that. Thank you for visiting my poor, lonely Canadian self, my dear! It'll have to be a longer visit next time!

So, I know I've got a backlog of a couple of stories that I wrote for various challenges that never got reposted. I'll be posting two for sure today, and I'll figure out what else I might have missed. I've also got about a million ideas that wanted to be written when I was too busy to think about writing, so we'll see if they're still interesting now that I have time. My bigbang will be posting at the beginning of August, so you've all got that to look forward to, you lucky things. *grins*

How's everyone else doing?
Reveals for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang went up today! And I'm actually online for once, so here you go! :D

Kaleidoscope

As an empath, Jensen has been alone all his life.

It's only logical. Between being raised in a government facility and interacting with the rest of the world from behind mental walls strong enough to keep out a jumbo jet, Jensen hasn't exactly developed the interpersonal skills most people consider necessary for daily life.

Of course, now that he's created an empathic - and romantic - bond with Jared, alone is the last thing that Jensen would describe himself as. From meeting the parents to having to interact with Jared's friends who definitely don't approve of him, Jensen is finding that having at least a few interpersonal skills would come in handy. He's also quite legitimately concerned that the government is out to get him, judging by all the strongly worded summonses he keeps finding in his mailbox.

All he can say is that he hopes true love is worth all this effort.

Aand if the premise sounds somewhat familiar, it's because this is a loooooong-overdue sequel to my timeless classic, "Learn to Glow for Other's Good". :P It is totes not going to be worth the five year wait, but here it shall be nonetheless. Huzzah!

I had the excellent fortune of being chosen by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] pennydrdful, who already has some amazing ideas about how to illustrate this story. Look forward to some fantastic stuff from her! Exciting!
I am going on vacation in two days! Exciting! However, I would most definitely rather do this meme than start packing, so please ask away!

Writerly questions under the cut )
Hello, denizens of LJ! How's it hanging?

I was at Dragoncon last week! It was pretty awesome!

Babbling about Dragoncon (with pictures!) )

TL;DR: Would definitely go again if it didn't cost so freaking much. I really need to work harder on becoming independently wealthy.

A note on my *cough* August fic challenge. )

Also, was anyone interested in having another movie watchalong that people actually participate in? If so, let me know what you might like to see!

That's mostly it from me. How are things with all of y'all?
Hi all! I have had one hell of a week. And, since a lot of it is fannish/entertainment oriented, I thought I'd share.

Sunday!
David Bowie Is exhibition )

Monday!
Hobbit Fan Event )

Tuesday!
Matt Nathanson concert )

Wednesday!
Nothing much, actually )

Thursday!
Motherfucking interview! )

Friday!
AKA today, which has hardly even started )

Saturday?
Oh god, I hope I'm not doing anything. I'm done.
Man, there's like no fiction getting posted here recently. Sorry.

I return! *bows* Well, technically I returned yesterday, but there's always stuff to catch up on after being away so I was kind of busy. Also, I hadn't checked LJ or my email since last Monday, so I had a lot of backlog to go through. *grins*

My convention was very good! A little colder than I would have liked as there's walking both from the hotel to the convention and from one part of the convention to another (it takes up half of a convention centre and public rooms in three different hotels), but there was no rain which I count as a win. Our costumes turned out well, although we were totally working on them right up until the moment we left the hotel, which is always a bummer. So many little details that take four million times longer than you expect them to. I do not have pictures yet because I was not the person whose camera was used, but I shall try to post some on the weekend.

And I have nothing else to say!

So, my [livejournal.com profile] j2_everafter is going up this Wednesday. Here are some stats on the editing process:

Rough draft #1 = 5260 words
Rough draft #2 = 12,040 words

GOD DAMMIT. WHY DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN?

The final copy better as hell not be continuing on this trend or I might just die.

In other news! We have had much snow and it is awesome. I have spent a lot of time shoveling of my driveway. The snow piles at the end of my driveway are actually taller than me. Admittedly, I am short, but five foot+ snow piles are not to be scoffed at. Also, you can tell you're in Canada when people a) keep shovels in their trunks and b) get out of their cars to shovel the highway. Boo yeah.
I think it says something unfortunate about me when, while preparing a lesson plan for Merchant of Venice, my hands automatically type 'Jared' instead of 'Jew'. *shakes head*

Since when are the tickets for the Toronto Supernatural con sold out? I mean, I don't have to worry since I bought mine the first day they were available (shut up), but the last time I checked there were a good twenty seats left in gold and over half the silver section still available. And that was, like, a week ago. *shakes head* Amazing.

And speaking of the Toronto con, is anybody going? I would love to meet some new people if any of y'all are going to be there! *hopeful face*

Title: To the Stars and Back
Author: [personal profile] cleflink
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] cryptaniac
Pairing: Jared/Jensen
Rating: NC-17
Word count: ~58,700 words (How did that, I don't even...)
Warnings: J2 in space, violence, sex, swearing
A/N: Written for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang's 2011 round. Complete notes can be found here.

Summary: 90% of the human race thinks the Solar System is an alien free zone. They're all wrong, but luckily there are people around who make sure that what they don't known can't hurt them. Jensen was one of these people until his job got axed, but he and his Earth boyfriend, Jared, are about to have the chance to change that. Question is, how will a relationship based primarily on clever banter and really hot sex fare when they're dealing with a conspiracy that threatens the safety of the entire world?

My working draft for my SPN/J2 Big Bang fic is a go! *triumphant fist pump* The story is not done done, but at least now all the scenes are there, I don't come off as a complete waste of writing space (hopefully) and the edits from here should be of the 'fix this paragraph' type rather than the 'rewrite this entire section'. Which is yay.

Soooo, f-list. Anyone out there have reccomendations for songs about a) secret agents, b) space adventures or c) secret agents going on space adventures? *halo*

It's also 55k which, while I know it's not a particularly large number for some people (I'm looking at you [livejournal.com profile] peppervl), is quite the accomplishment for me. Also, that's like 20k longer than the first draft was, which is my excuse for why I'm so slow. Posting in two weeks!

And kudos to all of y'all who have already finished your fics while I'm still flailing around in the background!

Of course, now this means I should probably pay some attention to the research work I'm supposed to be doing (for three different professors! Apparently the secret to being employed by my university is to stop going there). And more edits, of course. I'd really rather be writing something for [livejournal.com profile] blindfold_spn, though. We'll have to see what happens!

Also, I totally just wanted an excuse to use my new icon. I am too a writer! ^_~
I have come up with a masterful solution to my grief at editing my story for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang.

BANTER

No, really! It solves so many problems! For example:

  • Transition scenes? Add banter to make it less dull

  • Background info? Use banter to break up the delivery

  • Character development? Banter on top of banter

  • Random encounter? Banter is a completely appropriate attack option

  • Angst? ... okay, probably not so helpful here

  • Sex scenes? Are probably good to go, but there's always room for banter between the sheets (or against the wall, or in the shower, etc etc)

It's actually working surprisingly well. At least for the sections that I'm working on right now.

...It is possible that my story is going to involve a lot of snark. I'm sure everyone is shocked.

So as if the xkcd comic wasn't bad enough, I was typing in student emails for the first year Latin class I'm TAing and someone has the year 1991 in her email address. It was quite a shock to realize that, yes, someone who is twenty would have been born in 1991. *boggles*

I'm too young to be feeling old! What the hell am I going to do when I'm, like, 70?

In other news, this post has nothing to do with anything!

Yeah, I know, I know. Y'all should be used it by now.
